Interferometers

2D Interferometer

Since the Spanish Mediterranean area is a fruitful stormy region, a long range VHF interferometer placed at Mallorca Island extend the coverage of the current XDDE network (operated by the Catalan Meteorological Service). This sensor is installed in the Puig Major peak.

The sensor allow mapping two-dimensional sources of to intracloud activity of storms between Balearic Islands and the Ebro Valley region. This is an important infrastructure to characterize those lightning flashes producing TLEs and possible TGFs.

3D Interferometer

During the project AYA2009-14027-C05-05, a 3D VHF interferometer was installed at a distance of 4 km from the tower base. This interferometer provides 3D data of flashes at the Eagle Nest tower.
